SUMMARY:La Politica en Nuestra Comida // The Politics in Our Foods
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS HERE \nCentering the voices of community organizers and land stewards in the Dominican Republic and its Diaspora\, join us for a panel discussion on the impact of government policy and systems of oppression on our access to food. \nTogether we’ll build a shared understanding of what’s led to our dependency on a failed food system while panelists speak to creating alternatives that prioritize their communities’ needs. \nWe’ll hear from Ruth Pion (AfroHistoria y Junta de Prietas)\, Paola Estevez (Barrio Alante)\, Altair Rodriguez (Finca Tierra Negra)\, Vanessa Garcia Polanco (Young Farmers Coalition) on accessible information-sharing\, growing food in both rural and urban environments\, teaching and supporting the remembrance of ancestral practices\, and implementing practices that mitigate climate chaos. \nBeyond growing food organically and centering farm-to-table initiatives\, food sovereignty urges us to take control of\, and redefine\, a just food system that prioritizes life over profit. \nWe hope attendees will join us ready to hold space for this challenging conversation\, share insight from personal experiences\, and be open to contributing to our current work. Together\, we’ll work towards mitigating harm and becoming clearer on our role(s) in the fight for a just food system. \nThis is a hybrid event: the in-person event will take place at the Woke Foods restaurant in Cabarete\, with live-streaming access via Zoom. There will be interpretation from Spanish to English as well as music\, food for those in person\, and a recipe shared beforehand for those attending virtually. \nProceeds distributed to Barrio Alante\, AfroHistoria\, and Woke Foods \n\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE
